Apple says its new iPhone 4S has beaten the previous version's first day pre-sales record
Even though it's not called iPhone 5, Apple's latest version of its iconic smartphone - the iPhone 4S - is reportedly proving to be quite the hot potato with consumers. Apple says pre-orders topped a million in its first day, stomping all over the company's previous iPhone pre-order single-day record of 600,000 for the iPhone 4.
Apple's Philip Schiller says that first day pre-orders of the new iPhone 4S are the highest of any new product that the company has ever launched. The phone hits Apple Stores in the U.S. from 8 am on October 14 and judging by this early response, there could be some long queues.
For bargain hunters who don't mind using yesterday's technology, the iPhone 4 is being made available for a reduced price of US$99.
